Time for a battery change or SBM service on your E5/G5 EPIRB?
Each EPIRB is marked with the month and year when the battery should be replaced. To ensure that the unit is fully functional, the battery should be replaced before this expiry date is passed. For SOLAS obligated vessels, each EPIRB must be serviced every five years. SBM service every five years regardless of the battery date. SBM service and battery replacement must be done at a workshop certified by the manufacturer. At the same time, the EPIRB's function is also tested with measuring instruments, the transmission is tested and it is tested that it is completely tight in 60-degree water.

If the unit does not pass all the tests after the battery change, you will be offered a new one at a reduced price. In cases where you do not want this but only want scrapping, a basic fee of SEK 500 + VAT (625.-) will be charged for the work done until it does not pass any of the tests. This is how you do it:
